Take an adventurous self-drive holiday in Central Jutland and discover the beautiful countryside and the many exciting and idyllic towns scattered across the area. While we are on the subject of animals, a visit to Silkeborg is not complete until you have visited the Silkeborg Eagle Sanctuary, the Bird of Prey Show and the Bison Farm. Here the whole family can watch eagles and falcons as they hunt their prey, as well as enjoy a walk in the Owl Forest or a ride in the prairie wagon out to see bison.

Silkeborg is the perfect place to go on holiday in your own car and it is easy and fast to get around to the many attractions just outside Silkeborg. Pack the car with the family members and a few packed lunches and head out to Himmelbjerget. From the 147m high summit, there is an absolutely stunning view of the entire landscape, which is filled with lakes, forests and unique scenery. It is also possible to take Hjejlen to Himmelbjerget, which since 1861 has transported tourists between Silkeborg, Himmelbjerget and Ry. Hjejlen is the world's oldest coal-fired wheel steamer, and it is a very special experience to take a trip on the Silkeborg Lakes and see the steamer's paddle wheels cutting through the clear waters of Gudenåen.

Silkeborg Søhøjlandet has everything you need to experience some of the best Danish nature has to offer. Here you can combine an active holiday with canoeing or kayaking on Gudenåen, hiking on Hærvejen, mountain routes throughout the countryside, scenic golf clubs such as Hammel, Himmelbjerg or Silkeborg Ry Golf Club.
