Prague destination image

Take a fantastic self-drive holiday to Prague, the city of many beautiful bridges, and discover an atmospheric and charming metropolis where an unforgettable experience is guaranteed.

Prague is a city of bridges, and while you're there, don't miss a stunning walk across the Charles Bridge. Around the city centre there are a lot of them, but this stone bridge is particularly nice with its 30 statues. If you like, take a cup of coffee or an ice cream with you on the walk, while the Vltava River and the sight of the fairytale city set the scene for a picturesque and pleasant experience. Another way to experience the bridge is to take the tour at dusk, when the lights on the bridge create an incredibly beautiful play in the water. One of the benefits is also that many of the tourists have disappeared, so if you're a couple, you can enjoy the experience a little more in private. The bridge is 516 metres long and runs between the districts of Staré Mesto and Malá Strana.

Compared to Denmark, Prague is also a little cheaper to eat and drink in, which is a big plus if you want a cheaper holiday where your wallet doesn't run out every time you go out to eat. Food and especially beer are usually cheaper here, even if the quality is top notch. For example, order a Knödel with potatoes and gravy, as this is a classic and one of the dishes Prague likes to offer. In the Staré Mesto district you will find a host of fine restaurants and cafés offering delicious meals and refreshing drinks. The city is known for serving really delicious beer, so don't cheat yourself by exploring their many beer halls, selling many different beers with many different flavours. Try a coffee beer or a cherry beer, for example - there's plenty to choose from.

If you want to shop, Václav Square is where most of the best shopping opportunities are. There are also several theatres, cinemas, restaurants and cafés. An alternative to the more common shops are the many different markets in Prague. For example, there is a large food market in central Sterá Mesto. This is called Havelska and offers all the season's delicacies, so you can drop by if you just need a quick and tasty snack or if you just want to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the sight of the ever-happy traders.

One sight that's hard to miss is Prague Castle. The Castle is an ancient castle complex with an almost fairy-tale architecture. Today, it is the political centre of the country and the President lives and works here every day. The castle is open to visitors and is a very popular place. In the middle of the castle complex is also the Vitus Church, which is a real must see on holiday. Inside, the style is influenced by the many eras it has been built during and the architecture is therefore very fluctuating. In fact, it took a full 600 years to build. So there's a lot going on visually in the church and there's certainly no lack of sound either. The church is equipped with a large bell that plays so that the whole town is in no doubt what time it is. The bell is called the Sigismund bell and is one of the largest in the world.
