Berleburg castle

Berleburg Castle in Germany is the ancestral home of the Sayn-Wittgenstein family. It opens its doors to the public, offering tours of its art collections and well-kept gardens. Kahler branch

In the Rothaar Mountains in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia lies the 842-metre-high Kahler Asten, which is also the most famous mountain in the Sauerland. At the top is a weather station, an ideal destination when hiking in the area or on the Kahler Asten itself. The tower almost acts as a monument with an observation tower that also houses the well-known weather station, the tower restaurant and a natural history exhibition.

There are several hiking routes up to the summit and you won't regret taking the family on one of the wonderful walks. Enjoy the magnificent views and hike through dense pine forests with springs and the many historic boundary stones that mark the area.

In Kahler Asten and the surrounding mountains you will also find some of the very famous winter sports regions in central Germany, thanks to the good snow conditions and in Kahler Asten itself you will find among others the Skiliftkarussell Winterberg.

Wake & Water Winterberg

Try water skiing or wakeboarding, both beginners and experienced are welcome to stop by Wake & Water Winterberg.

Courses are also offered at all levels, and tours and excursions are also organised from the site. There is plenty of activity on the beautiful Hillebachsee, so remember to bring your swimming gear.

In recent years there has been a lot of interest in wakeboarding, which has now become a really popular summer sport. Enjoy your holiday by the beautiful lake and try wakeboarding or water skiing or watch everyone else enjoying the speed on the water - both are quite entertaining.

Fort Fun Adventure Land

Visit the cosy amusement park in Bestwig-Wasserfall in northern North Rhine-Westphalia. There are 75 hectares to let off steam and the large area houses 49 rides and attractions, both futuristic and more contemporary and of course with old favourites such as the Waterfall. The amusement park is also a Wild West theme park and offers several different entertainment options, depending on the season.

In winter you can ski in the park and many people take advantage of this. In the summer you can explore the area on horseback or pony, and otherwise just get on with trying out the many rides.

There's a slide, and the more sedate Speed Snake and of course the Wild Eagle sky plane, which flies 700 metres down the mountainside at more than 50 miles an hour. One of the park's highlights is the Trapper SLIDER, Europe's longest toboggan run at 1.3km full of steep hills, loops and jumps.

There are lots of fun things to try, so set aside the day to visit, and don't forget to bring the kids.
