Wallnau

On the west coast of the Fehmarnbelt, about 20 km from the hotel, lies a protected nature area of almost 300 hectares, Wallnau, also known as the "Wallnau Waterbird Reserve". The reserve was established in 1977 and is a haven for more than 270 species of birds, which use the area as a resting and staging area. Around 100 species breed in Wallnau and it is possible to see rare birds such as the Grey-breasted Grebe and the world's smallest tern, the Little Tern. Besides being a paradise for bird lovers, the area is also ideal for nature lovers and those who never say no to a nice hike. In the months between March and October, the information centre in Wallnau is open and offers, among other things, guided tours of the area.
