The historic Brødremenighedens Hotel is located in the small South Jutland town of Christiansfeld, well and truly in the middle of Haderslev and Kolding. The hotel dates back to Christiansfeld's foundation in 1773, and was in fact among the very first four buildings erected in the town. Less than 100 years later, the hotel would prove to be the site of the WWII Armistice Agreement. Schleswig War of 1864, was signed. Today, in addition to its unique history, the hotel offers exquisite food of a high quality, modern bright rooms and a wonderful location that makes it an ideal base for a holiday in Southern Jutland.
At a time when the Christian movement, the Brethren Church, was being persecuted by the Catholic Church, the then King Christian VII contacted the movement with the wish that a town be established in Denmark. The aim was for Christiansfeld to be a Christian centre, and the church was naturally one of the very first buildings to be erected. But later that year, the first foundation stones were laid for the hotel, which has since undergone several renovations - most recently a total renovation in the years 2004-2006. Today, the special royal connection to the city and the hotel is quite intact. In fact, every royal couple since the time of Christian VII has visited the hotel!
The hotel is no less historic for the fact that it was actually here, on the 18th. July 1864 - in room 7 (the armistice room) - that the armistice agreement between the Danish colonel Kaufmann and the Prussian lieutenant colonel Stiele was signed! Two days later the war was over.
Today the hotel offers, besides its fantastic history, a perfect starting point for a holiday in Southern Jutland. Despite several renovations, the hotel's soul and atmosphere have been carefully preserved. This is particularly evident in the Restaurant Kongens Kælder which, true to its name, is located in the basement and offers a unique authentic atmosphere with candles, low arched ceilings and whitewashed walls. Here you can enjoy exquisite dishes of high quality, made from scratch and prepared with a good big portion of love. Next to the King's Cellar you will also find the impressive Brotherhood Wine Cellar with wines from all over the world.
The location between Haderslev and Kolding gives you fantastic conditions to go out in the Jutland and explore the many different possibilities, whether it is nature, culture, history or shopping.
There is free parking at the hotel and you have free access to wireless internet during your stay.
The hotel has 18 modern rooms, all named after significant local personalities or events. All rooms are bright and spacious and equipped with private bath and toilet, hairdryer, flat-screen TV, minibar and tea and coffee making facilities. Six of the rooms are also equipped with the characteristic Christianfelder Kakkel stoves, which can be requested to be lit.
