Paris and surroundings

Paris is the capital of France and is known worldwide as the City of Love. The metropolis has over 2 million inhabitants and this number increases every year due to the popular holiday destination, which offers the Eiffel Tower, fantastic gourmet food and exciting wines.

Paris has many large beautiful squares, wide boulevards and historic monuments, but Paris also has small cosy neighbourhoods with quaint houses and small restaurants. Green parks and small green oases can also be found in Paris. You'll never finish discovering Paris, so you'll definitely want to go back for more of this wonderful atmosphere in the "city of cities". In other words, Paris awakens all your senses and must be felt, tasted, seen, heard and smelled.

Take a walk along the Seine, the 776 km long river that runs through Paris. According to myth, the Seine originated from the tears of a nymph pursued by a satyr. Go shopping in the famous Champs-Élysées street, easily accessible by Metro. Just as the Opera and Notre Dame, (Our Lady) can also be easily reached via the Metro.

A short ride away on the metro in western Paris is Trocadéro and the Eiffel Tower, which are also well worth a visit. The Trocadéro district is characterised by its many museums and at the centre of the district stands the impressive Palais de Chaillot, which houses 2 interesting museums. The building is divided into two wings and in the square between you have one of the best views of the city's landmark, the Eiffel Tower. Built for the 1889 World's Fair, the tower met with much opposition and was due to be demolished, but today stands as a landmark for the whole of France and is one of the most visited sights in the world. You can choose to take the lift up to the tower and enjoy the beautiful views of the city, or you can skip the queue and take the many popular steps up the tower.
